How to take care of your eyes?
Our eyes are the windows to our soul. By just looking at the eyes we can make out the physical, mental, emotional state of the person.
Here are some easy to practice tips to take care of your beautiful eyes.
Wash your eyes in the morning just after waking up, splash water several times in the eyes. Whenever you come from outside make it a habit to wash eyes with an eye cup to remove the dust that might have entered because of pollution etc. Instead of water one can also use Rose water which is very cooling and soothing for the eyes. But make sure it is pure and not synthetic.
While watching television or working on the computer it often happens that we stop blinking normally or one may observe a delay in blinking. This causes tiredness and dryness in the eyes as blinking lubricates our eyes. Hence, be conscious, and importantly keep a check on children as they have a tendency of getting engrossed while watching their favourite programs, forgetting to blink.
Eye exercises can help a lot to strengthen the eye muscles and create coordination in both eyes. One should do regular exercises- looking left and right, up and down, diagonal, extreme left to extreme right and vise versa, circular- clockwise and anti clockwise, near (at the tip of the nose), far – as far as one can see. After every exercise one should do gentle massage around the eye muscles, some acupressure points and palming to relax the eyes fully. Release the tension in the entire visual system and Occipital lobe by acupressure, gentle massage and palming.
Eat Vitamin A, E, C and B2 rich diet for eyes. Like yellow fruits and vegetables, especially carrots, green leafy vegetables are rich in Vitamin A, Amla (Indian Gooseberry), Orange- rich in Vitamin C, some nuts and seeds which are rich in Vitamin E. These should be consumed daily. Omega 3 fatty acids and Selenium help to protect optic nerves, source for these are Flax seeds, Chia seeds, Almonds, Pistachio, Mushrooms, Broccoli, Spinach, Brown rice etc. Vitamin D is also very important for the vision. It reduces the inflammation in retina and improves the vision.
Healthy eyes can live in healthy body. As per acupressure, eyes are connected with liver. So liver has to be healthy. Also, it is important that our neck is free from tension, adopt some neck exercises. A very good 7-8 hours of sleep is also very essential for healthy eyes.
Mental and emotional factors also play a big role in affecting our vision. Tension, stress, anger, fear, depression, can affect our eyes. Using yogic, relaxation, mindful techniques can help a lot. For improving the eye health one can also use acupressure, breathing techniques, asnas, tratakas, sound and tapping.
