Menopause- what to do?
It has to happen in every woman’s life. So take it easy, accept it happily and start living a better life while accepting it. Can we delay it? Yes for a few years it can be possible if one is doing regular exercises. Especially Walking, Yoga, Pranayama, Meditation and following a healthy lifestyle. When one eats healthy food, has good sleep and has a positive attitude, one could not only delay it by a few years but it could be a smooth affair. Healthier women suffer fewer menopausal symptoms.
At the time of menopause due to hormonal changes, women may feel some symptoms like;
1) Heavy Bleeding
One can use cold packs on the stomach and pelvis region. Boil coriander seeds (20g) in a glass of water, when it is half, strain and drink that water.
2) Hot and Cold flushes
One can do Surya Bheda ( right nostril breathing). If feeling cold, if feeling hot Chandra Bheda (Left nostril breathing 27 times in one go. One can feel the changes after this.
3) Sleep Disorder
Regular exercises and walking to sleep better. Avoid eating more carbs at dinner time and eat more proteins.
4) Depression
Mood swing is a common problem. Change the mood by looking towards the sky, going to greens, feeling the openness, and doing something that you enjoy.
5) Weight Gain
A common problem. Sometimes the thyroid gland becomes underactive so avoid fatty food. Do a lot of chanting to activate the thyroid gland and do regular exercises.
6) Weak Bones
Because of hormonal changes, bones lose their properties like calcium, phosphorus etc. One should eat a calcium-rich diet like sesame seeds, flax seeds, foxtail nuts, almonds, other seeds like pumpkin, sunflower, melon etc., green vegetables and fruits.
7) Bladder Control
The holding power of the urinary bladder reduces. One should drink enough water to detox as many women do not drink enough water to avoid frequent urination. One should do Kegel exercises, Ashwini Mudra, Mool Bandh and bladder muscle exercises.
8) Memory Problem
One should drink enough water, eat a well-balanced diet, avoid fried food, play some mind games, learn something new, chanting, singing, sleep well, mindful eating.
View Menopause as a natural normal process and not a disease. These symptoms may disappear after a year or two, but one still has to overcome these symptoms otherwise change of behaviour may increase family problems, and physical, mental and emotional problems. By adopting these methods one can minimise the problems and create awareness of how to handle these. In fact, menopause can make one feel more free, free from the menstrual cycles one would have gone through in the last 30-40 years.
